Gallbladder Disease

Gallbladder disease can present in a number of ways. The most common symptoms that patients present with including pain in the right upper abdomen or the central abdomen just under the breastbone. Patients also frequently note bloating, nausea, and even vomiting after meals. If you suffer from any of these symptoms a surgical consultation may be valuable to relieve symptoms.

The gallbladder is a repository for a fluid called bile made by the liver that helps digestion of fats. Symptoms of gallbladder disease can be caused by a number of issues. Most commonly, stones form within the gallbladder impeding the release of bile and leading to symptoms. Less commonly, dysfunction of the contractile mechanism of the gallbladder can lead to symptoms as well. Rarely, the polyps can develop within the gallbladder. Though rarely causing symptoms, the characteristics of such polyps can be concerning for potential malignancy and should be examined by a medical professional.
